Winter Wonderland
Sadé Woods
Ceramic Studio Workshop
Senior, Class of 2020
Coming into this year, I hadn't touched clay since my freshman year. I had taken elements my 8th grade year and studio my freshman year and decided not to continue. But this year that changed and I decided to take studio again and I'm glad I did. I believe that I improved a lot from my first two years and it showed in my work. This year for my show my interest came from a friend that does ceramics at another school. She showed me a snowman that she made and I thought that it would be the perfect thing to do for my show, since it's the winter show. I decided to incorporate winter/Christmas themed plates and cups to complete my show, and to bring it all together. My methods for the snow man were pretty simple, I used a paddle to make the bases and different coiled pieces to work in everything else such as the nose, candy canes, and scarfs. As far as the plates and cups I threw them on the wheel and added candy canes on the cups to give it a Christmas decoration. This semester I am most proud of my ability in getting my pieces made and having my vision come to life. This is the first year where I really thought everything through, including the set up of my art show. In the future I do see myself having fun with clay if I have the chance. This is my senior year so unfortunately this will be my last ceramics class. I enjoyed my last year and I am more than glad that I took this class.
